The 2014 short film The Fly, directed by Olly Williams, is about a getaway driver who gets progressively more irritated by a fly that is buzzing around his car. The sound of this fly buzzing plays a large part in the sense of irritation and helps us as a viewer to understand the man's emotions, as well as increasing the tension. The film has the tone of a typical dark comedy, which is added to by the realistic looking mise-en-scene setting of a normal looking street. A close up of the fly makes it feel more realistic as well, since we have seen it so it feels like it isn't just a buzzing sound effect. The series of jump cuts in the editing creates disillusion and chaos. There is clear character development from the performance and the narrative structure, showing how the character becomes progressively more aggressive and impulsive. The Fly Short Film
